CEnREP affiliate among recipients of interdisciplinary RISF grant to study energy storage and human health impacts

Dr. Harrison Fell was part of a team that was recently awarded a Research and Innovation Seed Funding (RISF) grant from NC State’s Office of Research and Innovation. The RISF grant will support a multidisciplinary team of researchers, which in addition to Dr. Fell includes Dr. Jeremiah Johnson (Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering), Dr. Fernando Garcia Menendez  (Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering), and Dr. Melinda Morrill (Economics), to look at how energy storage can be used to reduce human health impacts associated with electricity generation. The research is interdisciplinary in nature as it requires aspects of modeling energy systems, energy markets, air pollutant transport, and dimensions of human responses to air quality. The grant, along with matching funds from CEnREP and the Energy Collaborative, will also support a one-day workshop at the intersection of energy systems modeling, air quality modeling, and health and environmental economics. The workshop will be held in the spring semester of 2020.
